Restore a backup?

Total Posts: 5

Hello,
I tried out BambooInvoice with Ubuntu 7.10 and found that it did everything I needed, thank you. I have now done a clean install of 8.04 and have reinstalled LAMP and upgraded BI to the new version. I’ve tried restoring the backup from 7.10 version 8.3 to the bambooinvoice database in mysql using Mysql Administrator but can’t get it to work with BI.
When I install BI I make sure that I can login and then use mysqladmin to restore the backup. I get to the login page but can’t login and force_demo_password also does not work. I am using the same email address with demo as the password. The backup was made using the BI utility.
Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?
Thanks for the great program and help!

Hm, that is exactly how I’d expect it to work.  There is no reason force_demo_password shouldn’t work… does it give you an error message when you try to change it?

OK, force_demo_password worked and my invoices are there. I think I was using the wrong path. I tried using the any_password_here function and opened the page properly but what do I do next? I pushed the login button and entered my original password but the login failed.

any_password_here?

Could you verify you are using the same email address?  None of this makes much sense, I can’t understand how it wouldn’t be working.

I’m using the same email address and it works with the demo password. When I visit the any_password_here page, I am trying to change the password from demo back to my original password. The only place I see to type it in is by clicking the login button on that page or revisiting the main login. I have tried both and both fail. When I visit the any_password_here page, how do I change my password? What should happen? I feel that I’m missing something really simple but it’s flying right over my head. I am a novice at web programs.

There’s nothing in bamboo that says “any_password_here”.  I’m confused.  What is the URL of the page you are visiting?

If what you are trying to do is change you password, have you read that section of the userguide?

I am following the user guide:
Changing your admin password
In the file bamboo_system_files/application/controllers/login.php there is a function at the
very bottom entitled force_demo_password(). If you uncomment it, you can now visit
“http://yoursite/bambooinvoice/index.php/login/force_demo_password” and your
password will be set to “demo” again, or alternatively, visit
“/force_demo_password/any_password_here” and set it to anything you want. Don’t forget
to comment it out again when you’re done!

The URL of the page ends with “any_password_here”.

LOL!  OH my goodness.  What a funny mis-communication.  I meant “any_password_here” in the userguide as a way of saying that you could add anything you want.  For example, if you wanted your new password to be “elephant” then you’d visit

http://yoursite/bambooinvoice/index.php/login/force_demo_password/elephant

if you wanted it to be “mysecretpass, then you’d visist

http://yoursite/bambooinvoice/index.php/login/force_demo_password/mysecretpass

In your case, I think you’ve reset your password literally to “any_password_here”  wink

I had a great laugh at myself too. I said in an earlier post that something simple was flying right over my head when actually it had landed on my nose! I did see your last post soon after you made it but life took over after that. Thanks for the quick reply. The password reset worked perfectly. I knew that I was a literal person but we all are to some degree. Does the “any key” syndrome ring a bell?.........any_password…..any key!!!!!!

Thanks again for the great program and help. I will donate when I can.
