“Overdue” Status Should Be Based On “Sent” Date, Not Invoice Creation Date

hi

i often take a day or two creating my invoices in draft mode before i send them out. i bet lots of people do this.

sometimes, i’ll create a draft of an invoice and then not submit it to the client for a week or two.

so your current “Overdue” status, based on invoice creation date (unless i misunderstand), makes me think the client is overdue on an invoice i may not have sent them yet. i was about to contact a client to tell them they were overdue on payment because Bamboo says “2 weeks overdue”. but then fortunately i checked the sent date, and i saw the “overdue” status was incorrect.

Overdue should be based on date invoice was submitted to client, not date invoice was created.

So the current “Overdue” status is not meaningful info for me. Bamboo does not actually tell me when invoices are REALLY overdue.

Thanks

You could edit the invoice to change the date when you send it if you’d like.

i see that too late.

Payment Terms: 15 Days (December 25, 2009)

December 25 was 4 days ago.

The manual workaround you suggested (manually changing the date) makes sense. But it would help if there was some warning that popped when i email the invoice, telling me to change the date. I have sent out many invoices now with the wrong date, because i assumed your system automatically dated them when i submit them.

Thanks

Sorry for the confusion, but the date is printed in bold at the top. You can also set that date to anything you want when you create it, so if it makes more sense for you to post-date it by 2 weeks, go for it.

yes, now that i understand, i can just date it manually when i submit it. not sure why you’re suggesting i post-date it by 2 weeks. just a matter of manually setting the date to the current date at the time i email it to my client.

the current “overdue” status isn’t guaranteed to be correct, because it’s not automatically based on the first date it’s emailed to the client. Bamboo assumes i email the invoice the same day i create it.

but, yes, now i know i can manually override that, so that is swell.

so my feature request is to display a message on the page, or a popup, asking the user at the instant they email it, if they want to set the date to the current date. and/or a user-preference to automatically set the date (without asking) to the current date the first time it’s emailed.

not urgent, though.

thanks for the reply, and for a very cool software, and have a great year!

If I could modify this request: It would be good to be able to set the due date as a specific date rather than x days after the invoice date. e.g. my terms of trade are standard (for New Zealand) - payment is due by the 20th of the month.
Currently if I am generating invoices on the 2nd rather than the 1st, I have to tweak the number of days to get the invoice to read 20th for due date.

Also, a minor quibble:
If the due date is the 20th, Bamboo shouldn’t say “overdue” until the 21st.
